WHAT TO WEAR WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT TO WEAR

There are some day's that I wake up and think to myself, "I literally have nothing to wear."  When, in reality, I literally do, the problem is that I just can't seem to put together an outfit.  I have been in that boat where I've been late to a class, event or planned activity because I had no clue what to wear.  But after I became more confident in myself and more confident in my personal sense of style, go-to outfits have been easier for me to drum-up.

You may or may not have similar pieces in your own wardrobe, but hopefully, the three looks below will give you some backdrop to easily create outfits to wear when you really just don't know what to wear; and even though it's now officially fall, the weather is still fluctuating between 65-degrees and 80-degrees so certain pieces (such as the sandals) may not work for the weather where you live  adjust accordingly! So, let this post be your guide, so you'll no longer waste valuable time in the morning mindlessly scrolling through social media in hopes that an #ootd will reveal itself to you.

- LOOK NO.1 -
GRAPHIC TEES?  YES PLEASE.

A graphic tee is the ultimate street-style, ultimate chic piece to quickly get ready in the morning.  The key to successfully sporting one of these tees is to pick a print that is ultra-fab and very stylish.  Forget the tee's with sayings such as "GOOD VIBES ONLY" or "NAMASTAY IN BED."  Not only are these sayings overdone, but they scream "pajama party" versus "excuse me, blogger coming through!"  Instead, opt for one with a chic illustration or a simple phrase or saying such as, "Paris, New York, London, Milan."

- OUTFIT NO.1 -

This look is ultimate city-chic.  A classic leather mini paired with simple black booties are the perfect match, but when a graphic tee is added, it creates a more casual vibe.

- OUTFIT NO.2 -

"Fashionable sporty" is so in right now.  By pairing a graphic tee with a pair of joggers and fashion-forward sneakers, your look becomes perfect for a day shopping or running errands, but instead of looking frumpy you look very fab.

- LOOK NO.2 -
1,2,3 MAXI ME!

There's nothing better than not having to pick out a top or bottom that match.  Which is why I always turn to my maxi dresses when I'm in a serious fashion rut.  They're quick and easy; all you do is throw it on, add some accessories and you're out the door.  Regardless of the time of year, a maxi dress can always be worn: with booties, a leather jacket, sandals, a longline vest, even tights.

- OUTFIT NO.1 -

Sometimes being matchy-matchy can be a good thing.  This outfit in particular radiates a very minimalistic vibe.  By pairing a maxi dress with denim, the look becomes more casual and less summery.

- OUTFIT NO.2 -

If you're unsure of the weather, the best way to rock a maxi dress is to pair it with a simple sweater overtop.  The ensemble will still look dressy, but you're body temperature will be comfortable no matter how crazy the weather becomes.

- LOOK NO.3 -
THE MORE SKIRTS, THE MERRIER

Maybe I'm the only one, maybe I'm not, but I'd much rather wear a skirt over pants.  They're a much more versatile piece when it comes to outfit ideas.  You can add a blouse for a dressier look, a sweater for days that are cooler, a silky tank for days where it's overly humid or you can put on a simple plain tee for days where you really don't feel like trying.  Regardless of the weather or the amount of effort you feel like exerting, a skirt will pull any look together.

- OUTFIT NO.1 -

There's something so Parisian about paring an off-the-shoulder top with a textured skirt.  I don't know what it is, but I just love it.  Flats are coming back in style, so in order to dress down the look, add a pair of printed flats to the outfit and you're ready to go!

- OUTFIT NO.2 -

Midi skirts can typically be seen as overly modest or too dressy, but when worn correctly, they can look very trendy and fashionable.  My favorite way to wear a midi skirt is by pairing it with a bright-colored top with a lot of texture.  That way, it plays down the formal-ness of the skirt and the ensemble becomes perfect for any occasion.

WHAT'S YOUR GO-TO OUTFIT WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT TO WEAR?  THINKING ABOUT CREATING ONE OF MY GO-TO LOOKS?  LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS BELOW!

WHAT YOU SHOULD BE WEARING AFTER LABOR DAY

I know what they say, and to be quite frank, I don't care.  I'm a sucker for an all-white outfit., something about it is just so sophisticated.  Even though I know this and everyone else should know this, it just doesn't seem to be apparent in today's fashion world.  Which is why, I'm calling all of you fashion rule-breakers to refrain from storing your white jeans, white blouses, white dresses etc., and instead, hang them up in the front of your wardrobe for not only all to see, but to be worn with dignity.

CRISP WHITE JEANS

(THAT MAY OR MAY NOT BE DISTRESSED)

Admit it.  When you find a rockin' pair of white jeans — you know, when they aren't see-through, aren't too tight and fit better than Cinderella's glass slipper ever did — it's the best feeling.  White jeans after labor day are the most frowned upon, even more-so than wearing a white sundress at a mid-summer wedding.  There's just something so scandalous.  But, if you put together an outfit that makes sense, it will be less obvious that you're breaking fashion norms and more-so seen as you're a fashion goddess.

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED:
1) A PAIR OF WHITE SKINNY JEANS:
classic and clean, distressed or frayed at the hem

2) A WHITE STRUCTURED BLOUSE:
short sleeve or long sleeve, if it's on the boxy side, you're good to go

3) BOOTIES:
grey, tan or beige, if you have a pair of booties in a complimenting color, brownie points for you

HERE'S HOW TO WEAR IT:
throw on that blouse, cuff your jeans (if they're not already ankle length) and slip on your booties.  to accessorize, put in some pearl earrings and you're a solid 10/10.  go knock 'em dead, you fashion goddess you.

A WHITE DRESS

(THAT'S DEFINITELY MAXI OR MIDI & DEFINITELY NOT LACE)

A white sundress is the epitome of summer.  Which is why, wearing a white, mini, lace dress after labor day could cause some fashion conflict.  A white midi or maxi dress though, can be the perfect transitioning fall to winter piece.  Instead of purchasing a white dress that is plain, made out of a scratchy polyester material and is embroidered with florals, be on the hunt for one that is unique; maybe has a bit of distressing or is multilayered and off-the-shoulder.

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED:
1) AN ECCENTRIC WHITE MIDI/MAXI DRESS
think Carrie Bradshaw meets Olivia Palermo.  a good mix between city-girl and parisian

2) A FAUX LEATHER JACKET THAT HAS A 10/10 FIT
structured but not too structured, more street than moto

3) A PAIR OF D.I.Y. OR SPLURGED RIBBON BALLET FLATS
maybe you can afford a pair of Miu Miu's, but I can't.  so try the D.I.Y. that I did here

HERE'S HOW TO WEAR IT:
slip on that dress (maybe put a slip on underneath so you won't flash the world), put on that faux leather jacket and lace up those ribbons; this is the ultimate fall ensemble.

 a white fur vest

(FAUX, OF COURSE.  NOT TOO WILDLIFE, PERHAPS A MAXI-LENGTH)

While the weather is still in the upper-80s and 90s, it will soon start to get cold — it is September, for Pete's sake.  I've always loved a sophisticated faux fur vest.  No, not the kind that look like you have just gotten back from a hunting sesh. in the wilderness, but the kind that is made out of soft-looking material and isn't too chunky, which is why, a faux fur vest that is longer in length is ideal.  Not only can it be the center-of-attention piece in your outfit's, but it can also be used to layer, especially when winter is only a mere 3-months away.

HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED:
1) A FAUX FUR VEST
white, soft, long and you're good for all of fall and winter (too soon to be mentioning winter?  meh)

2) BLACK SKINNY JEANS
black, skinny and a fit like none-other

3) A BLACK TEE-SHIRT
fair-trade cotton, v-neck and tight but loose so it can be worn tucked and untucked

4) A FELT/FAUX WOOL HAT
so trendy, so chic, probably in the color black

5) WHITE SNEAKERS
crisp white, some sort of platform, not your average Converse

HERE'S HOW TO WEAR IT:
put on all of the pieces, as mentioned above.  stick to wavy hair and toss on the hat to keep your head insulated, lace up those sneakers and the look is so New York Fashion Week street style.  the faux fur vest adds the perfect amount of chic without seeming like you tried too hard, way to go!

WHAT YOU SHOULD BE WEARING AT LOLLAPALOOZA

I get it, OK?  Lollapalooza isn't Coachella, so what's a girl to wear?  Well, seeing as though I am a Lollapalooza virgin, I decided to consult with an experienced Lollapaloozer on the style of this particular festival.  My friend Alicia (check out her work here) told me that Lolla is the edgier, more grunge version of Coachella.   And while we wish we could be dancing under the sunset, with mountains in sight and a ferris wheel in the distance on top of a desert, that's just not going to happen in the Midwest.  Instead, we're dancing under the unsure-of-itself weather, with the Willis Tower in sight and Navy Pier in the distance on top of maybe cut, maybe not cut grass.  Clearly, dressing as boho as possible just isn't ideal in a location where the beach is really just sand by a lake.  But regardless and contrary to popular belief, Lollapalooza doesn't have to be the promiscuous sister of Coachella.  Instead, it can still be a relatively classy affair to show Cali just how stylish us Midwesterners are.

FOR THE QUEEN OF EDGE

Some people can wear all black in the summer without anyone questioning their sanity as the sun beats down on their backs.  If you're that person, then you're most likely the girl to edge things up a bit at Lollapalooza.

There's just something about a pair of distressed denim cutoffs that screams edgy to me.  I'm not sure why, but it just does.  When paired with an off-the-shoulder top, the classic denim shorts are taken up a notch and given major style points, because if you've been a little out of the loop, off-the-shoulder tops are all the rage at the moment.  To finish off the look, add a statement belt with adornments for detail and a pair of platform sandals to amp up your look and your height.

FOR THE BOHO BABE

Florals, maxis and sheer skirts galore, the boho babe embraces the use of texture and prints.  If you're the person who constantly wishes that your Midwest fest would turn into a crazy beach party, then this look is definitley for you.

You can never go wrong with a floral maxi dress, it's the best of all bohemian styles,  When paired with strappy lace up sandals and a huge sunhat and sunnies, you'll immediately look like the ultimate festival gal.  To finish off the look, try your hand at a braid-in hair piece, they're the sure-fire way to ignite any hairdo you may be incorporating into your ensemble.

THE CHICLY CASUAL

I envy the girls who can rock a pair of boyfriend jeans no matter what the occasion is.  From pairing them with heels for a more dressy affair, to indulging in the street style vibes by adding a pair of adidas sneakers to the ensemble, the chicly casual girl knows how to take the simplest of pieces and incorporate them into the chicest of outfits.

Boyfriend jeans are the ultimate cool-girl pant.  They kind of say "yeah, I woke up like this, but at the same time, I kind of tried today."  When worn in a darker shade, they become the ultimate festival piece.  To tone the jeans down a bit and to add those beachy vibes, a pair of espadrilles are the way to go.  They're comfortable and chic and so in right now.  Finish off the look with an off-the-shoulder-top and a layered necklace, and you're ready to dance all night!
