August is designated back-to-school month, and the long awaited school shopping starts. But a new school year calls for new fashions. And as much as I love saving money, sometimes it's just nice to pick up new goodies to enhance your style for the new (school) year.
TREND NO.1: NOT TOO MINI SKIRTS
With mini-skirts, there is no in-between of types of affection. Either you love them, or you hate them. But since the mini-skirt's popularity has been increasing this summer, and now is hitting full admiration this fall, they are now becoming more trendy and wearable for fashionista's of all body types.
My favorite thing about asymmetrical hemlines, pleats, and heavy fabrics on mini-skirts is their ability to make anyone look AMAZING. Asymmetrical hemlines help slim legs because it takes away the focus on your inner thighs (a problem area for most women) and instead accentuates the slimness of outer thighs! Pleats work the same way, they add dimension to your lower body, creating the illusion of toned legs.
And if you're someone who feels uncomfortable wearing mini-skirts because of their length, try skorts! They're a skirt on the front and shorts on the back -- stylish yet practical.
TREND NO.2: WHEN BOOTS HAD BABIES
As you all may know, I am a die-hard fan of ankle booties. They go perfectly with any outfit, and can edge your look up. Not to mention, most booties have more structure and support, allowing them to be a better walking shoe for school.
- H & M
I am a firm fan of tall and chunky-heeled booties versus small and chunky-heeled booties. When a heel is taller and chunky, it gives the appearance of slimmer and longer legs, because the heel acts as an extension. But, if the heel is smaller, it instead cuts off the length of your legs, making them appear more stubby.
My favorite way to wear a pair of ankle booties is really with any outfit. But, if you're looking to spice things up and use them as an alternative to heels, adorn the boot with a frilly pair of socks and fishnet tights with a dress, for a look that is captivating and classy.
TREND NO.3: SOOO TIGHT
If you had been a reader since fall and winter last year, you would know that I was -- and still am -- obsessed with tights. So, that is why I am incredibly happy that tights are a reining trend for this upcoming fall and back-to-school season.
Tights (from left to right)
Tights should be your go-to layering piece for the fall. Use them to spice up a solid color dress. Or, wear them under your favorite summer shorts in order to make them fall-weather appropriate. One of my favorite ways to wear tights in the fall is to layer them under a simple skirt with an oversized sweater on the top for a relaxed yet put together ensemble.
