You can't go wrong with a pink coat. Especially a faux fur one. This coat in particular I had been obsessing over ever since I stepped foot into Free People in November. I saw it hanging on the rack on the far right side of the small, yet filled Free People on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. But as soon as I looked at the price tag, I decided it wasn't worth it. At a whopping $200, there was no way I could justify spending that much on a coat.
The weeks following, I kept searching online for a coat just as glorious as the one I saw at Free People, and sadly, found nothing even close. But then January came, and markdowns on winter and Christmas clothing were starting to happen. My roommate Alicia and I decided to take a trip down to the Magnificent Mile for an afternoon of shopping, and while we were browsing around Macy's, there is was. The last pink faux fur Free People coat and in my size. I think it may have been destiny, because that's what it felt like. I brought it up to the cashier and asked how much it was -- because the price tag was missing -- and it rang up as $35. I couldn't believe it. I guess it just seals-the-deal that good things come to those who wait.
This look incorporated an abundance of layering. I have recently been experimenting with different pieces in my wardrobe and seeing how they can work together to create one beautiful ensemble. I loved the look of this flowy skirt, but because of my height, it's hard to wear it on its own. I decided to hike up the skirt and put leggings underneath in order to have the skirt look like a layering piece -- almost a long shirt. I added the tank top over the skirt because the asymmetrical pleating added interest and a pop of brightness. Since the weather was cooler, I decided to put a flowy sweater over the entire look, and pull it together with a embellished belt for adornment. To finish off the look, I put on my favorite (faux) fur coat and thigh-high boots. This look I wouldn't normally wear on a day-to-day basis, but I think for days where I want to go all-out and try something new.
This look is perfect and can be easily recreated with any of the flowy pieces you currently have in your wardrobe. If you recreate my look, tag me in your Instagram photo, @brunettewithabudget, I'd love to see what you all come up with!
