My Winter Beauty Routine | Vegan + Cruelty-Free

Happy Monday everyone! Here in Chicago, the weather man is reporting blizzard-like conditions including snow and freezing cold temperatures—I’m not a fan. Unlike summer where my skin goes makeup-free except for a bit of SPF here and there, my winter skincare and makeup routine differs a bit, as the cold weather often leaves my skin feeling dry and chapped. Below, I walk you through each step of my process starting from my before bed ritual, to right upon waking up in the morning, to the steps in my makeup routine. All of the products I use are vegan and cruelty-free, and many are all-natural and have a minimal ingredient list. Read below to see how I maintain and amplify my skin/face in the winter!

I honestly think the reason that my skin doesn’t look horrible is because of my nighttime routine. In the shower, I always make sure to wash my face (I also wash my face every morning and after a workout). I’ve been using Pacifica Beauty’s face cleansers for quite some time now, but I also love Alba Botanica’s and Burt’s Bee’s cleansers. After washing my face, I apply either my face oil from You & Oil (for nighttime only) or my moisturizer from Pacifica Beauty (in the morning). In the winter, it’s really important to make sure that your skin is hydrated, and I’ve found that face oils work wonders to my skin overnight. If I have pimples—which I usually do because I’m human!—I always make sure to apply a pimple gel/cream at night and in the morning. This “zit zapper” from Alba Botanica is great because not only does it include ingredients that help minimize pimples, but it’s also tinted so you can wear it during the day without having to use any pore-clogging concealer.

If my skin is particularly bad (it usually is if I’m traveling/just returned home from a trip or if I’m stressed), I always make sure to use a face mask on my skin. I’ve tried so many different face masks, Yes To’s Detoxing Charcoal face mask is by far the best I’ve ever used. Along with the formula being 10/10, the brand’s new “SnapMASK STICK” packaging makes mask application incredibly easy and mess-free.

Regardless if I’m wearing makeup or not, I always prime my skin to ensure that my pores are sealed off from any dirt, pollution, and other grime that may find its way into my pores throughout the course of the day. My primer from Pacifica Beauty has been a game-changer for my makeup routine. It’s formula is glowy and makes your skin look dewey and illuminated, plus, it smells amazing. Along with primer, I always apply some sort of lip balm to my lips because they get chapped like it’s no one’s business in the winter! I’ve been using this “Boo Boo Balm” from Whole Love Organics for a few months now, and while it’s not technically a lip balm, it’s made with calendula and other natural oils that are great for moisturizing and repairing damaged skin.

If I’m look especially tired, I always end up adding a bit of face makeup. However, the great thing about both the concealer and foundation that I use is that they’re both very hydrating. Since last year, I stopped wearing liquid foundations and have transitioned to powdered foundations for simplicity and skin care reasons. My powder foundation from Tarte is a great for when you’re in a hurry or are just too lazy to take the time to blend and apply a liquid foundation. My concealer stick from AmazingCosmetics is also a great option for those who don’t feel like doing a whole drawn out makeup routine.

Last, but certainly not least, is mascara. I love mascara and think that it takes any look from 0 to 10 instantly. Even if I wear absolutely no makeup, I always make sure to apply mascara because it makes my face look a bit more awake and gives the illusion that I actually tried to look decent. I have a few favorite mascara loves, but recently I’ve been using my mascara from Uniful Beauty and Love Goodly’s collaboration. However, Tarte’s mascara comes in a close second for those of you who like to shop in-store rather than online.

I hope you enjoyed this post, and I would love to know what your skincare/beauty routine is in the winter and what products you swear by!

with love & light, amanda
