In just two months, Brunette with a Budget will be 5-years-old. It’s crazy to think that 5-years-ago I started this blog to display my personal style and write runway reviews on fashion shows. It’s also crazy to think about how much this site has transformed from a page about “personal style on a budget,” to living a wholesome vegan lifestyle without breaking the bank.
If you’ve been reading my blog since the beginning, then you might remember my posts about “cheap” fashion, specifically from retailers like Forever 21 and H&M. But as I got older and became more educated, I realized that these fast-fashion companies were harming the planet and people. When I became a vegan 4-years-ago, not only did my diet change but so did my entire lifestyle. I wanted to make sure that what I was putting in my body was just as healthy as what I was putting on my body—clothes included. For the past year, there has been an obvious shift in Brunette with a Budget’s content. Instead of blogging about runway shows and style inspiration, I write about my favorite vegan beauty, fashion, and food products that college students and anyone trying to maintain a budget can afford and enjoy. Because veganism is a huge passion of mine, I found that writing about these topics has come more naturally to me and has been less forced than when I was writing about fashion shows. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll always be a sucker for a good Celine or Chloe show, but veganism, my love for the planet, and my passion for all things health and wellness has become number one.
Since this post is slightly reminiscing on my old content, I thought I would show you two huge visual differences in my posts from then to now. Feel free to click on each image to be taken directly to the original post, enjoy!

One of the main posts that I used to have on Brunette with a Budget were “Style Guides.” In these guides, I would cover the latest trends and then find pieces of clothing for less than what was being shown on the runway. One of my first Style Guides was all about summer fashion, and one of my more recent (“recent” being a relative term, as I haven’t done a Style Guide in over a year) style posts was on athletic wear. As you can see below, the imagery and design has totally shifted. It’s amazing to see how much more creative I’ve become!
I’ve always loved taking photos. Whether or not I was actually good at taking photos is still up for debate. However, I do think that I’ve gotten a lot better at taking imagery for my blog, mostly because iPhone’s camera quality has improved and apps such as Lightroom and Snapseed have taken over Apple’s App Store…and thank goodness for that! Along with the new camera quality and apps, I have also taught myself how to take aesthetically pleasing photographs for my blog. In my more recent posts, you can tell that there is a similar theme in each image I take—some white space with a natural feel. Before, I used to just throw things on a blanket (for the white background, of course) and hope for the best. Now, my images are much more thought out and planned. Take a look below!
As you can see, several things about this blog have changed. But one thing remains true: Brunette with a Budget always has and always will be my creative outlet. While I now write about veganism and wellness, and I used to blog about fashion and finding the latest steal, I have always written with passion. I hope you all enjoy (and have been enjoying) Brunette with a Budget’s transition. I can’t wait for you all to see what’s to come!
